July 9-15

The Eastwood Company, Pottstown, PA, to Syracuse Nationals, Syracuse, NY

The Factory Five Racing Road Tour: A Full Week of New England Fun

Starting in 1996, Factory Five Racing has grown from a company that originally produced Cobra style replicas to a company that now manufactures four styles of sport and racing vehicle kits . They have entered the street rod market with a component package that makes the financial challenge of building a decent street rod well within reach of most people. This year's Factory Five Racing Tour in July to the Syracuse Nationals is a week filled with great stops at some famous shops and manufacturers, some big car cruises, a visit to a NASACR track and a classic car show.  The week will be highlighted by an open house and tour of the complete Factory Five Racing facility in Wareham, Massachusetts.

Our adventures begin on Friday evening July 8th  in Pottstown, Pennsylvania northwest of Philadelphia. Local hot rodders are welcome to join the Road Tour participants as we make the thirty-minute cruise to Maple Grove Raceway. It is their monthly Friday night grudge races at the drag strip and there should be plenty of excitement. It is a chance for anyone who passes tech to make a run down the strip and see who really has the fastest car. Check out the Maple Grove website www.maplegroveraceway.com to get all the details and requirements to make a pass on grudge night. For those who would rather just sit and enjoy the racing, that is fine too.

Saturday July 9th  The Eastwood Company is hosting a huge car show called the Eastwood Summer Classic at their facilities on Shoemaker Road in Pottstown. Local folks are invited to join in with the Road Tour participants from 10AM until 3PM for a car show, product demonstrations and special prices on many of the Eastwood Company auto restoration items. Food will be available and prizes will be given out. It will be a fun day at The Eastwood Company. Check the Eastwood Company website www.Eastwood.com to see their complete line of products. Saturday evening the Road Tourians will get a look at an amazing private car collection located in the area.

Sunday the Factory Five Racing Tour continues with a stop at the famous Pocono Raceway where we will get a chance to see a stock car driving school being held that day. The StockCar Racing Experience gives folks a chance to take some very hot laps around the track either as a passenger or a driver. Check all the details at their website www.877stockcar.com . There is no charge to sit in the stands and watch all the excitement. Sunday evening July 10th  we have been welcomed back again by the great hot rodding community of Port Jervis, New York. Two years ago we stopped in Port Jervis and participated in a huge cruise that filled the entire downtown area. They have invited us back with a promise of even more fun and festivities.

Monday July 11th starts with a visit to the site of the Woodstock Music and Art Fair that in 1969 set the tone for a generation. From the hill at Woodstock we will head to Newburgh, NY for a visit to the headquarters of Orange County Choppers. Their huge facility contains many of the bikes that were built on the TV show and their full line of OCC gear. From OCC we will drive on to Connecticut and the home of Juliano's Hot Rod Parts in Ellington, just north of Hartford. Marcia and Bob Juliano have been involved in our hobby for 40 years and are inviting everyone to stop by and see their shop on Monday evening.

Tuesday will be a full day on the Road Tour. We start with a visit to the home of avid collector Mark Lewis in Charlton, Massachusetts. Mark has an amazing collection of hot rod nostalgia and automobilia items that is very impressive. From Mark's it is a very short drive to visit our good friends Sue and Dennis O'Brien of O'Brien Truckers. Dennis has increased their line of cast aluminum products and it now includes their famous club plaques, license toppers and many speed equipment cast aluminum products from the early days of hot rodding. Dennis will give us an inside look at how these items are manufactured.

We will arrive at the Factory Five Racing headquarters in Warham, Massachusetts about 3:30p.m. on Tuesday. President Dave Smith has promised a personal tour of their entire facility and a look at what makes Factory Five Racing the industry leader in component car kits from Cobra style replicas to their new 1933 Ford hot rod package. Everyone from the area is invited to join us at Factory Five Racing on Tuesday afternoon July 12th.

Wednesday the fun continues as we travel from Massachusetts to Saratoga Springs, New York and the East Coast National meet of the Early Ford V-8 Club. On that Wednesday they are having a swap meet and concourse judging. I am sure we will see some fine restored flathead Fords. From Saratoga Springs we will travel south to see the early Ford guru himself, Dick Spadero. Dick has been one of the main "go to" guys for early Ford items for many years. Dick is planning a get-together at his shop on Wednesday evening July 13th.

By Thursday morning it will be time to get to our destination for the week, The Syracuse Nationals at the New York State Fairgrounds. From the Thursday afternoon participant BBQ at the lake to the awards on Sunday there will be plenty for us to see and do all weekend if we have any energy left from the trip!

Make plans to join us on the Factory Five Racing Road Tour this July 8 - 17. It will be a fun filled week for sure. Call the Road Tour Hotline at 1-800-664-1362 with any questions. I hope to see you in New England this July!
