September 3-10
NHRA US Nationals, Indianapolis, IN, to Shades of the Past, Pigeon Forge, TN
For many folks in the Midwest the Labor Day weekend marks the end of summer. The kids (or in most cases for many, the grandkids) are headed back to class. The nights are getting cooler and winter is not too far away. For street rodders in the Midwest, Labor Day weekend kicks off the month of September and that means three big events on every rodder's calendar: The NHRA US Nationals in Indy, Shades of the Past in Pigeon Forge and the NSRA Nationals North plus in Kalamazoo. This year the calendar landed just right. These three huge events are on three back-to-back weekends and The Shades of the Past and Lokar Midnight Road Tours will be attending them all.
Like so many baby boomers that enjoy the hobby, the organization that started it all back in 1951 is turning 60. The NHRA is throwing a party at their premier event and they have invited the AMSOIL/Street Rodder Road Tour to be a part of the festivities. The Shades of the Past Tour will start at the US Nationals in Indy on Labor Day weekend. Our cars will be part of the tribute to 60 years of rodding. Our hospitality tent on Saturday, Sunday and Monday is sure to be a center of activity. Tuesday morning we will visit the Danchuk facilities in Indianapolis and enjoy a tour and some lunch. It will be a short drive to Jasper, Indiana and a get-together at Ride Tech. Brett and the Ride Tech team are great hosts and there is always plenty to see and learn at their facility. Tuesday evening we will spend the night in historic French Lick.
Wednesday we will make a lunch stop in the Ohio River town of Madison, Indiana, the birthplace of hydroplane boat racing. It is then on to Spade Kreations in Cincinnati. The folks who installed the wild sound system in this year's '55 Chevy will give us a tour of their facilities. From Spade Kreations we will cruise to Woody's Hot Rodz in Bright, Indiana. The folks at Woody's were the builders of this year's Road Tour Chevy. At Woody's we will be joined by a Tri-Five Chevy Tour sponsored by Woody's Hot Rodz and Popular Hot Rodding Magazine. Thursday morning there will be a very large group as we all roll together to the Shades of the Past event and its new home at Dollywood Splash Country in Pigeon Forge. Friday and Saturday we will have a special gathering area as we enjoy the legendary Shades of the Past event.
It is going to be two jam-packed weeks on the Shades of the Past Tour and the Lokar Midnight Tour. Plan to join us on one or both of them. Download a registration form here at the website. Visit us on Facebook, follow the adventures on Twitter and call the Road Tour Hotline at 1-800-664-1362 if you have any questions. It's going to be a great September. Think about coming along for the drive.
